It was also a favourite of Cleopatra and the mines of Upper Egypt were one of the first sources of Emerald. Shah Jahan the Mughal Emperor who built the Taj Mahal expressed his fondness for Emerald by having sacred texts inscribed on it. In modern times Emerald made an appearance in the Russian Crown Jewels, ShahBanu Farah Pahlavi's and Queen Elizabeth II's collection.
